The capstone WMI experience, the Wilderness EMT, is the highest level of wilderness medicine training available. WMI's WEMT certification opens the door to a variety of career opportunities, whether you want to work as an EMT, on the ski patrol, or take steps towards becoming a medical doctor.

This month-long intensive program combines wilderness medicine with urban medical care practices, including time at a hospital and in an ambulance. After four weeks of classroom education, practical skills, scenarios and full-scale mock rescues, you will be ready to handle medical emergencies, in the wilderness or right in town. Successful completion of the course and both written and practical examinations will certify the student as a National Registry of EMT's Basic EMT and as a Wilderness EMT.

Please note: Students must be 18 years of age before the course start date. Students must also have a current healthcare provider level CPR (most commonly called CPR for the Professional Rescuer or BLS Heathcare Provider CPR) and a TB test completed within 1 year of the last day of the course.

The WEMT offers 9 semester college credits. We are able to accept AmeriCorp awards for the WEMT with college credit.

"This WEMT course was a real eye-opener for me. At first, I thought I had enrolled in a course way over my head. Then I realized I was not only capable of completing this course, but enjoying it too."
